“Misinterpretation,” Feisty Deeds: Historical Fictions of Daring Women, Women’s Fiction Writers Association anthology, forthcoming, Spring 2024.
“Misinterpretation” is inspired by the life of Afong Moy and her interpreter and attendant, Atung. The historical record of Afong Moy is scant, and we know even less about Atung. Intrigued by his story and his role as a cultural broker, I wanted to explore his perspective.
